There is nothing dearer (closer)
to Allah during the days of Qurbani than the sacrificing of animals. The
sacrificed animal shall come on the Day of Judgment (Qiyamah) with its horns,
hair, and hooves. The sacrifice is accepted by Allah before the blood reaches
the ground. Therefore sacrifice (Qurbani) with an open and happy heart.
Allah says in the Holy Quran: So
turn in prayer towards your Lord (Allah) and sacrifice (Qurbani). {108.2}
Hazrat Zayd Ibn Arqam (RA)
relates that the Companions (RA) asked from Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him),
O Prophet (PBUH) what is Qurbani?
He answered, “It is the Sunnah of
your father Ibrahim (AS)”.
They asked again.
What benefit do we get from it?
He replied.
A reward for every hair (animal).
And (what reward is there for the animal with) wool,
O Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him)?
They asked.
A reward, He (PBUH) said,
For every fiber of the wool.
[Ibne Majah]
The time of Qurbani starts from
10th Dahul Hijjah after Eid prayer and ends before the sunset of 12th Dahul
Hijjah.
Muslims celebrate this day of
scarifying by dividing the meat of animals into the poor people who are not able
to offer the Qurbani. Therefore often people divide the whole meat into three
parts in which first for oneself, second for neighbors, and third for
relatives.
