Doing Umrah in Ramadan Hadith



Islamic Lunar Calendar consists of 12 months and Ramadan is one of the twelve months. Fasting in this month is contained in the list of five pillars of Islam, therefore it is a great month than other months. In the Ramadan, Allah revealed verses of the Holy Quran towards last Messenger (Peace Be Upon Him). Actual, Quran is a curriculum to pass life in the world for every human. Allah Almighty says about the month of Ramadan that it is my month. The reward of one good deed and one worship is equal to seventy good deeds and seventy worships.

In this month, fasting is obligatory for every Muslims who have got the age of puberty. Fasting of Ramadan is not prescribed for children, old and those Muslims who are suffering from illnesses, pregnant women, and breastfeeding women.

Muslims from all over the world prefer to perform Umrah in this month due to countless blessings and virtues but it is not obligatory to perform Umrah in Ramadan.

 Umrah is not obligatory as Hajj is mandatory because Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam whereas Umrah is not contained in the list of 5 pillars of Islam. It is Sunnah which was performed four times by Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) on different occasions. Ibn Abbaas reported;
When the Prophet (PBUH) returned after performing Hajj, he asked a woman (Umm Sinaan Al-Ansaariyyah), Why did you not perform Hajj?
She replied, The father of so-and-so had 2 camels and he went on pilgrimage on one of them, and the 2nd is used for the irrigation of our land.

The Prophet (PBUH) stated:

An Umrah in Ramadan is akin to Hajj with me.  (Muslim & Bukhari)

Most people (Muslims) prefer the Umrah in the last ten days of Ramadan because of the special night (Lailatul Qadar) comes in one odd night of the last ten nights. Muslims participate in Itakaaf worship, in which they spend their last 10 days and nights in the mosque.
