What Are The Events That Happened In The Muharram?

Muharram-ul-Haram is an Islamic month and it is a very important month according to Muslims because many important historical events of Islam happened in it.

It is an honorable month as Allah has declared that Muharram is one of four honorable and holy months of Islam.

Allah says in the Holy Quran:

Verily, the number of months with Allah is 12 (in a year): it was so appointed, by Allah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them, 4 are sacred.
That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein…” (al-Tawbah, 9:36)

Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) stated:

The year is 12 months, of which 4 are sacred: 3 consecutive months, Dhul Qadah, Dhul Hijjah, and Muharram, and Rajab of Mudar which comes between Jumada al-Thani and Shabbaan”. (al-Bukari 2958)

When did the Islamic year start?

Islamic year started during the reign of second Caliph of Islam, Hazrat Umar (RA) and he selected the year of migration of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) from Makkah to Madina (Yathrib) as 1st year and sacred month of Muharram-ul-Haram as the 1st month. The Muslim, Hijri, or Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar which is consisted of 12 lunar months in a year of 354 or 355 days.

Muslims celebrate all religious events according to the Islamic calendar, for example, Eid-al-Fitr, Eid-al-Adha, Hajj, and etc.
